Summary:
|
Photo of a temporary barracks at NAS Pensacola taken sometime between 1917 and 1918. The crowded cots and lack of overhead lighting indicate this may be a temporary quarters. Two sailors can be seen in the photo as well as multiple blankets and boots.
On April 6, 1917 Pensacola was still the only naval air station and housed 38 naval aviators, 163 enlisted men trained in aviation support, and 54 fixed-wing aircraft. Two years later, by the signing of the armistice in November 1918, the air station had 438 officers and 5, 538 enlisted personnel. |
