Summary: Photograph of ten U.S. Navy Curtiss N-9 planes in front of the seaplane hangars 71, 72, and 73 at NAS Pensacola taken January 27, 1917. Each plane has a stylized anchor on the tail which was used to identify navy aircraft until May 1917 when the National Aircraft Insignia was adopted. Men can be seen marching before the planes in uniform. The date of the photo appears in varied spots, the first two holding it in the bottom right corner, the last one holding it in the upper left. The back of the second copy was provided due to writing provided by a former pilot. There is also a faded stamp which details the photo as being taken by W. L. Richardson, U.S. Navy. Three copies are provided for clarity of image and context.
