Summary:
|
Photographs of a Curtiss H-16 flying boat, Bureau Number A-845, flying over NAS Pensacola taken circa 1920 - 1922. The photos are taken at various angles of the plane from above and the side, showcasing the plane as it traveled over the bay and nearby forested areas. The pilots can be seen smiling and waving at their photography escort in the first and fourth photographs. The Model H-16, introduced in 1917, represented the final step in the evolution of the Model H design, with longer-span wings, and a reinforced hull. The H-16s were powered by Liberty engines in U.S. Navy service and remained in service for some years after the war, most receiving engine upgrades to more powerful Liberty variants. |
