Letter sent to Richard W. Thompson, Secretary of the Navy, informing him of shooting of John Powers by his wife Frances and that the U.S. Commissioner at Pensacola was overseeing the investigation of the matter. The paper is thin to the point of transparency and the page of the ledger this letter was copied into appears in the upper right corner. Parts of the paper have been eaten away by rust due to iron in the ink used.
