Wing frames of the plane the photo was taken from are visible in the foreground while three planes fly into the distant near the upper center of the photo. The larger of the type is identified as a Curtiss HS type. The back of the photo contains the label given to the photo as well as an archival summary.

Postcard of sailors in the "Solo Coffin" crash boat in motion on Pensacola Bay taken sometime in 1918. The back of the postcard contains the address to Rox Photo Shop, unknown if this was the photographer or simply printed the post card. The back also contains an archival summary detailing that the name "Solo Coffin" was given to the crash boat due to its nature as a rescue vessel in the case of pilot crashes on the bay.

Aerial photo of seaplane hangars and ramps at NAS Pensacola taken December 6, 1918. The long building to the left perpendicular to the beach is Building 27, known as the Coal Shed. Constructed in 1827, it was originally used to store coal to power steam-engine vessels that moored at the Pensacola Navy Yard. It was later used to store lumber and at the time of this photo used as an aircraft hangar. Curtiss HS-1L seaplanes are parked on the water.

Photo of western most seaplane hangars on the beach of NAS Pensacola taken on December 6, 1918. The left-most hangar on the lower left housed Squadron 6, the "Wild Rams." Squadron 6 was one of two the navigation training squadrons and flew Curtiss H-12s and H-16s. At the lower mid-photo the small row building was the motor test. At the far lower-right, the hangar painted in camouflage housed Squadron 2, the aerial gunnery training squadron.

Photo of Camp Saufly on Santa Rosa Island, across from Pensacola Bay, taken August 9, 1918. The camp was established as a temporary training base in the summer of 1918 where "aerial gunnery instructions could be carried on without danger to the neighborhood." By November 1918 the walled tents were replaced by wood buildings to include a mess hall, gunnery, armory, etc. All seaplanes and personnel, except night watchmen, returned to NAS Pensacola at night. Visible at far right above the tents is Burgess N-9 Bureau Number A-2428. The camp was named in honor of Lt. Richard C. Saufley, Naval Aviator #14, who was killed at NAS Pensacola in 1916.

U.S. Navy Coal Barge 214 with an aircraft catapult is moored on the opposite side of the Basin.The largest of the three small buildings at the end of the Basin in front of the Coal Barge is Building 144, used to house engine test stands. The large building with arched windows is Building 38, a machine shop.
