The lighthouse became automated in 1965 and the Keeper's Quarters now houses the Navy's Command Display Center which has exhibits pertaining to the history of the lighthouse and Naval Air Station.

Trees have been cut down and only the stumps remain and the two-horse team appears to be dragging a plow though it is hard to make out. The date of the photo is etched in the upper left corner. Photo of student aviators at NAS Pensacola standing behind the Ruggles Orientator taken circa 1922. The device was used to teach aviators how to control an aircraft under abnormal conditions. The device was essentially a seat mounted within a gimbal ring assembly, enabling full rotation in all three axes as well as vertical movement.
