Abstract/Description
-
Skinner, born in New York, was employed in the lumbering industry in Michigan, Wisconsin and California, and ran a sawmill in Navada. In 1874, he inspected pine forests in Bagdad, Floridatown, and Ferry Pass, Florida. Between 1874 and 1905, he built a lumbering empire of over 100,000 acres of pinelands in Santa Rosa and Escambia Counties. This autobiography provides an eyewitness account of lumbering in West Florida and the yellow fever epidemics between 1874 and 1905.
