Photo of student aviators at NAS Pensacola standing behind the Ruggles Orientator taken circa 1922. The device was used to teach aviators how to control an aircraft under abnormal conditions. The device was essentially a seat mounted within a gimbal ring assembly, enabling full rotation in all three axes as well as vertical movement. |
