- May 20, 1920 letter from Root, Clarke, Buckner & Howland to Blount & Carter outlining the position of the Texas Company in regards to the claim brought against them by the Pensacola Maritime Corporation. A settlement amount of $291,493.89 was presented to Mr. Stevens of the Texas Company, who refused it outright. The information within this letter is presented to assist with the decision of whether the Pensacola Maritime Corporation should sign the contract with Steele.

Summary: | Series of legal documents and communications between Pensacola Maritime Corporation in Pensacola, FL and Root, Clarke, Buckner & Howland firm of New York following the fuel oil contract cancellation by The Texas Company in May 1920. The S.S. “Ohian” is of particular concern, as it was sitting in the Pensacola port for a period of time without oil while the contract was disputed. The Pensacola Maritime Corporation engages the services of W.A. Blount to review the original July 1919 contract. The services of Clinchfield Navigation Company of New York are also employed to assist with contract negotiation with J.H.W. Steele Company simultaneously. | |
