Photo of a two-horse team and what appears to be a black worker clearing the land to extend the Balloon Field at NAS Pensacola taken sometime in August 1922. Trees have been cut down and only the stumps remain and the two-horse team appears to be dragging a plow though it is hard to make out. The date of the photo is etched in the upper left corner. The back of the photo contains a small archival summary and some descriptive information.

Photo of Station Field taken in 1922 which showcases a squadron of approximately 40 Curtiss JN-4HT aircraft parked before the hangars. The back of the photo contains descriptive information on the nature of the subjects and the date the photo was taken. A stamp of credit to the U.S. Navy is also present as well as a stamp that the photo was developed at the NAS Photo Lab. A small archival summary is also presented for additional context.

Photo of student aviators at NAS Pensacola standing behind the Ruggles Orientator taken circa 1922. The device was used to teach aviators how to control an aircraft under abnormal conditions. The device was essentially a seat mounted within a gimbal ring assembly, enabling full rotation in all three axes as well as vertical movement.

The photos are taken at various angles of the plane from above and the side, showcasing the plane as it traveled over the bay and nearby forested areas. The pilots can be seen smiling and waving at their photography escort in the first and fourth photographs. The Model H-16, introduced in 1917, represented the final step in the evolution of the Model H design, with longer-span wings, and a reinforced hull. The H-16s were powered by Liberty engines in U.S. Navy service and remained in service for some years after the war, most receiving engine upgrades to more powerful Liberty variants.
