Abstract/Description
Aerial photo of the balloon field at NAS Pensacola taken sometime between October 1917 and August 1918. Visible is the dirigible hangar in the lower right corner of the photo. The two dark roofed buildings are "Magazines" which housed ammunition. Clearly visible is the sand shelves below the water just beyond the beach as well. On the back of the photo is descriptive information on when the hangar was built and dismantled penciled in the top left corner. An archival summary is also present on...

Photo taken in 1917 showing the observation tower at NAS Pensacola under construction. Men can be seen working on the wooden scaffolding along the tower seemingly with no safety ropes. Silos in the background are painted in camouflage scheme which occurred as the U.S. entered World War I. A stamp of the NAS photo lab is printed on the back as well as an archival summary.

Aerial photo of the Wet Basin taken sometime after May 6, 1918. Hangar Barge One is moored in the Wet Basin as are SC-1 Class Submarine Chasers 336 and 158. Moored at the left entrance to the Wet Basin is US Navy Coal Barge 214 with the affixed aircraft catapult.
