Abstract/Description

Letter to Rear Admiral Daniel Ammen on the viability of using lard over sperm whale oil in ship lanterns as a cheaper, equally efficient substitute. Samples were sent aboard the U.S.S. "Canonicus" for the Bureau to test for itself. The paper is thin to the point of transparency and the pages of the ledger this letter was copied into appears in the upper right corners of each page. Parts of the paper have been eaten away by rust due to iron in the ink used.
