Aerial photo of the balloon field at NAS Pensacola taken sometime between October 1917 and August 1918. Visible is the dirigible hangar in the lower right corner of the photo. The two dark roofed buildings are "Magazines" which housed ammunition. Clearly visible is the sand shelves below the water just beyond the beach as well. On the back of the photo is descriptive information on when the hangar was built and dismantled penciled in the top left corner. An archival summary is also present on...

Photo taken circa 1922 of the balloon landing field at NAS Pensacola looking southwest. This photo was taken before land-based aircraft training was added to the base. Two blimps are visible in the photo, one at the left through the open door of the dirigible hangar and the other on the field towards the center right. Personnel can be seen gathered around the balloon on the field.
