Aerial photo of NAS Pensacola looking southeast taken in 1917. Personnel can be seen wandering the sidewalks of the base and several cars are parked besides Building 2 in the lower right corner. More can be seen parked between the power plant and sheet metal shop. The building at the center of the photo with the chimney is Building 47, the power plant. Aerial photo of NAS Pensacola as it appeared in 1916-1917 after the metal hangars 71, 72, and 73 were built to the west of Center Wharf. Tied at Allegheny PIer is the armored cruiser North Carolina (ACR 12), the station ship, which arrived in September 1915. The back of the photo contains a date range for the image as well as information relating the image to a personal collection of one Vice Admiral Gerald F. Bogan.

Postcard of ten U.S. Navy Curtiss N-9 planes in front of the seaplane hangars 71, 72, and 73 at NAS Pensacola taken January 27, 1917. Each plane has a stylized anchor on the tail which was used to identify navy aircraft until May 1917 when the National Aircraft Insignia was adopted. Men can be seen marching before the planes in uniform. The postcard was addressed to an E. C. Feedler from Vineland, New Jersey and was published by the New York company Albertype, Co.

Show morePhotos taken May 27, 1916 during the funeral of US Navy Civil Engineer LCDR James Vincent Rockwell who was killed in an aircraft crash on May 24, 1916. In the first photo, the procession is marching west on Garden street into the intersection with Palafox as can be seen in the bottom left photo where the street sign is present. The second photo shows the procession in front of the Isis theater on Garden Street. A horse drawn caisson can be seen in the center of the photo in front of the officer's column. Street car tracks are also visible in both photos with a street car visible clearly visible in the bottom of the second photo. The crowd of onlookers is made up of at least white and black citizens. Various modes of transportation are also visible in the side streets such as cars, horses and carts, and bicycles.

The frame and barge arrived on May 19, 1916 and the installation of the skin and curtain was completed in early October 1916. Dirigible DN-1 arrived in mid-December 1916.
