Aerial photo of Melinda's Ditch taken sometime between 1916 and 1917. The name refers to the stream in the bottom center of the photo which was named after a woman who owned a brothel on a hill overlooking Woolsey and the bay. The house stood where a riding corral rests in the center of the photo. A sandy walking path is visible leading from the corral to the stream. On the back of the photo is an archival summary in type which provides the context for the name of the stream.

Photos taken May 27, 1916 during the funeral of US Navy Civil Engineer LCDR James Vincent Rockwell who was killed in an aircraft crash on May 24, 1916. In the first photo, the procession is marching west on Garden street into the intersection with Palafox as can be seen in the bottom left photo where the street sign is present. The second photo shows the procession in front of the Isis theater on Garden Street. A horse drawn caisson can be seen in the center of the photo in front of the...
Show morePhotos taken May 27, 1916 during the funeral of US Navy Civil Engineer LCDR James Vincent Rockwell who was killed in an aircraft crash on May 24, 1916. In the first photo, the procession is marching west on Garden street into the intersection with Palafox as can be seen in the bottom left photo where the street sign is present. The second photo shows the procession in front of the Isis theater on Garden Street. A horse drawn caisson can be seen in the center of the photo in front of the officer's column. Street car tracks are also visible in both photos with a street car visible clearly visible in the bottom of the second photo. The crowd of onlookers is made up of at least white and black citizens. Various modes of transportation are also visible in the side streets such as cars, horses and carts, and bicycles.

Rutty(?) of Warrington, and the date of death of James V. Rockwell.

The frame and barge arrived on May 19, 1916 and the installation of the skin and curtain was completed in early October 1916. Dirigible DN-1 arrived in mid-December 1916.

Postcard of ten U.S. Navy Curtiss N-9 planes in front of the seaplane hangars 71, 72, and 73 at NAS Pensacola taken January 27, 1917. Each plane has a stylized anchor on the tail which was used to identify navy aircraft until May 1917 when the National Aircraft Insignia was adopted. Men can be seen marching before the planes in uniform. The postcard was addressed to an E. C. Feedler from Vineland, New Jersey and was published by the New York company Albertype, Co.

The back of the second copy was provided due to writing provided by a former pilot. There is also a faded stamp which details the photo as being taken by W. L. Richardson, U.S. Navy. Photo of the Warrington-Woolsey civilian burial ground in Warrington taken February 6, 1917. It was located just outside the west wall of the US Navy Yard Pensacola. This photo was taken after it was cleaned of the overgrowth and the fencing and headstones are now clearly visible. The cemetery was established in the 1830s by the residents of Old Warrington, Woolsey, and a nearby tent city of laborers. The historical marker is in the yeard at Quarters 12 on Billingsley Drive, NAS Pensacola. On...
Show morePhoto of the Warrington-Woolsey civilian burial ground in Warrington taken February 6, 1917. It was located just outside the west wall of the US Navy Yard Pensacola. This photo was taken after it was cleaned of the overgrowth and the fencing and headstones are now clearly visible. The cemetery was established in the 1830s by the residents of Old Warrington, Woolsey, and a nearby tent city of laborers. The historical marker is in the yeard at Quarters 12 on Billingsley Drive, NAS Pensacola. On September 1, 1930 the Navy revoked housing permits for Warrington residents and contracted with Waters and HIbbits to relocate 840 bodies along with many of the original head stones, most to an area now known as Barrancas National Cemetery, others to St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, and a few to cemeteries of the family's choosing. This was accomplished between May 31, 1931 and June 28, 1935. At first Barrancas Cemetery and the old cemetery remained separate but Barrancas subsumed it over the years. The old cemetery is now situated in the approximate center of Barrancas in a large stand of live oaks and delineated by a row of small boxwoods. The iron fence that used to surround it is now gone.
